With the frost sparkling on the ground and the bite in the air it is unsurprising that the December full moon is called the Cold Moon. You might think that with all the darkness in December that this full moon is a time of hibernation and isolation, actually its the complete opposite. The Cold Moon is all about social connection. At this time of year what we truly need in our core is to find warmth, light and connection. Things feel harsh in winter, its the season, its difficult to feel present, to feel positive and that is where community steps in. The Cold Moon is a time to connect with the things truly matter.
Most importantly, while nature appears to be dead and lifeless, looks can be deceiving. Deep beneath the surface are themes of rest, renewal, and hope. Being around those we love reminds of this. This time of dormant energy also gives us a chance to reflect over the past year and the future, as well as a opportunity to reconnect with ourselves, our core and our community nourishing our roots ready for our energetic awaking in the spring.

- Inner Child– Our inner child needs comformt and attention during the winter months. Try dialoguing with your inner child or doing some activites that will nourish your inner child.
- Create moments of connection – Reach out to the ones you love the most and make it important to connect with them and have some fun!
- Get some sunlight – In winter we need the sunlight more than ever to nourish ourselves both physically and mentally so go for a walk, wrap yourself in a blanket with hot chocolate and some mittens on a park bench and soak up the winter sunrays.
- Hygge – Hygge is the Danish art of cosiness and it has helped Danes survive and thrive in the cold scandinavian winters for centuries. If you want some tips on how to hygge check out my guide.
- Reflection – Grap your journal, light some candles and reflect over the past year. The highlights, the moments that brought you joy, the times you felt strong.Then look to your future and identify what you need to nourish you to prepare for the growing season.
cold moon gløgg
Gløgg is a traditional scandinavian drink made at Yule and is perfect for a cosy winter gathering. You can make it withour without alchohol.
200 ml Orangejuice (Best if freshly squeezed)
- ½ Orange zest
- 200 ml Water
- 275 g Sugar
- 5 Whole cloves
- 2 Cinnamon sticks
- 3 All spice
- 1 Bottle of redwine or red grape juice.
- 100 g Raisins
- 50 g Chopped Almonds
- Add sugar, orange juice, orange zest, water and spices to a saucepan.
- Simmer for half an hour.
- Pour in redwine or grape juice and heat up your gløgg.
- Add raisins and almonds.
- You’re now ready to serve a cup of hot and tasty gløgg.
